Lactation Support
**ALL CLASSES ARE VIRTUAL DUE TO COVID-19**
Baby care & breastfeeding preparation course ($295/couple): There’s a strong emphasis on childbirth and preparation for delivery, yet very little on what happens after baby comes home. Our baby care class is more than just taking care of a baby. Parents are taught on how to be engaged, aware, and sensible - which creates an environment for a smooth and confident transition into new parenthood. Baby care goes with breastfeeding naturally and new parents have little to no support or guidance when they need it the most. The knowledge gained from this course is practical and not gadget-driven. We will cover all the information and practice everything. I then follow it up with an in-home visit to make sure you’re all on the right track. I can confidently say that those that have taken this class are the ones that thrive and feel comfortable taking their newborn outside. These parents are better prepared, while maintaining a strong sense of self and relationship with each other.
We go over basic infant needs: sleep schedules, how to change a diaper, swaddle and soothe a baby, baby wearing, a proper latch and how we achieve it right away, feeding positions, feeding cues, hand expression/breast massages, bottle feeding and pumping, breast pumps and parts, breast care, and to create or best use of your support team/partner/birth tribe. We rehearse prior to baby, which helps with applying what we've learned to memory.
Baby’s already here? Even better! Parents would still benefit from this complete baby care class, which makes for a much more enjoyable transition - and more restful sleep!
- This class includes 1-home visit after mom and baby settle at home, 1-follow-up phone call, and correspondence via email as needed. If more visits are asked, please see additional services below.
Postpartum breastfeeding visit ($200): This is for families in need of further assistance or reassurance with breastfeeding. Firstly, we observe and evaluate current feedings, latch, and feeding positions. We reinforce learning of baby feeding cues, hand expression/breast massages to ensure milk flow, and precautions to look out for with supplementation. We agree on a plan to get back on track and best use of your support team/partner/birth tribe.
- Includes 1-home visit with mom & baby present and 1-follow-up phone call.
Additional follow-up visit ($50/hr): requires established visits by either options (1 or 2) listed above; consists of 1-home visit with mom & baby, and 1-follow-up phone call.
